Apparently I’ve been thinking so much about my garden that I’ve started dreaming about it! Last night I dreamt that I planted some palm trees so that we could enjoy some coconuts. Hmmm. Somehow, I’m thinking they wouldn’t like the snow? We may not have palm trees, but we have been spending a lot of [...]  This past weekend was exceptionally warm for these parts. We were in the 70s – 80s all weekend! It was just glorious. It seemed like everyone emerged from the winter hibernation to get some yard work done. It was particularly perfect timing for me as I had been hoping to get my spring planting done. [...]
Well, the produce has started to roll in from our tomato plants this week. We’ve been eating fresh tomatoes on salad, in pasta sauce, on tostados, and now in my first attempt of homemade salsa! I used this recipe and it turned out so good! I made two quarts of salsa from [...] Hehe. I crack myself up. I made a sourdough starter this weekend. (Get my joke now? Sigh. I guess it isn’t a great joke if you have to explain it, huh?) I am really excited to try and make my own sourdough bread! And, of course, you need a sourdough starter to make sourdough. My [...] We’re still waiting on the majority of our produce to come in. We are SOOOO close, I can almost taste it!! But the winters are long and late out here, so the planting starts late, and thus, the harvesting comes late. We’ve got tons of green tomatos just waiting to ripen. I haven’t dug out [...] I’ve already mentioned that we’ve started partaking of the fresh goodness of home-grown lettuce, but I thought you might like to see how our garden is growing. The weather this year has been a perfect combination of heat and rain, so I’m hoping our peppers and tomatoes will thrive despite my inexperience.
[...] The sun came out yesterday. Oh, it was just gorgeous! We’ve had a bit of a dreary June, so today really felt like the first day of summer. We tried out the kiddy-pool for the first time. I think it’s safe to say we have a pool junkie on our hands.
I am happy to say our summer gardening is off to a fantastic start! We have been having such great weather, it is impossible to stay indoors. Even Mr. Fussy-pants (I think there is another tooth. Seriously?) enjoys getting outside and seems to be all smiles, coos, and giggles with a handful of grass. I [...] Yesterday we finally took advantage of this beautiful weather to get a little gardening done. We have very high hopes for gardening this year, which is a little intimidating since we know very little about the great outdoors. Our to-do list is fairly extensive, so we’ll see what actually gets done this planting season. We [...] |
